CBD and CBG: Understanding the Differences & Benefits When Used Together

The information contained herein does not make health claims or provide medical advice; it is for informational use only. Please consult your physician before consuming any CBD or CBG product.

CBD (cannabidiol) and CBG (cannabigerol) share similar pathways, but differ in chemical structure and concentration.

Chemical Process

CBG occurs via extraction of the additional carboxyl grouping from CBGA via CBGA decarboxylation. CBGA heat exposure changes it to the then activated compound (CBG).  Once CBGA is exposed to heat, it changes from an acidic compound to an activated strain (CBG). A similar process occurs for CBD.

Similarities Within Pharmacology

The key similarities between CBD and CBG are: (1) they are non-lethal, (2) non-intoxicating and (3) very limited in side-effect potential. This is based on current data.

Yet when scientists examine how both work, the studies and differences are clear. CBG interacts with both human CB1 (where brain receptors reside) and CB2 receptors, while CBD does not. Therefore, CBG’s ability to interact with the CB2 receptor – where the immune system resides – is immense, producing extraordinary therapeutic benefits.

CBG offers such an array of wellness benefits and properties such as:

  • Properties that fight bacteria
  • May reduce glaucoma-related and intraocular eye pressure
  • May ease bladder dysfunction
  • Shows promising results in fighting Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Anti-inflammatory properties
  • Fights neurodegeneration
  • Appetite stimulant
  • Inhibition of mild pain
  • Anxiety reduction
  • Cancer cell proliferation
  • Antioxidant benefits

CBD also offers powerful wellness benefits and combats:

  • Pain associated with arthritis, fibromyalgia, and migraines
  • High blood pressure and diabetes
  • ADD and ADHD
  • Epilepsy
  • Insomnia and restlessness
  • Mood disturbances – i.e., depression and anxiety
  • Nausea
  • OCD
  • Inflammation
  • Cravings for alcohol and cigarettes

Pre-clinical research indicates using both CBD and CBG together can be quite beneficial – especially when a desired effect of both is desired.

As-a-matter of fact, recent trends demonstrate as CBG gains in popularity, those who have incorporated CBD into their regimens are incorporating CBG as part of their wellness maintenance program.
